Tenerife, Spain: The Valle Colino shelter in the Canary Islands has saved the lives of
thousands of animals since it opened its gates back in 2005. It has nursed dogs
back to health, found them a new home or has managed to reunite them with their
family.
A recent case has left both the staff and animal lovers across the island in dismay, after a 11-year-old dog was brought to the shelter in an appalling state of health. Initially, vets believed there was nothing much left to do for the dog, named Santa. He had a serious infection and was severely emaciated (it is estimated that the dog did not eat for 15 days).
Santa received the best possible medical care and his condition has improved slightly. The great news is that the dog has finally accepted some food. However, vets warn that his life is still in danger.
The shelter has yet to disclose the owner’s identity. I happened to come across two news articles published in La Opinion, a local paper, hence I was able to find out that the dog belongs to a hunter in La Laguna.
I am willing to deliver this petition to the local authorities (to help them file a lawsuit against the owner). An investigation needs to be launched as soon as possible. The amount of pain and suffering Santa was forced is just heartbreaking and out of this world.
Please also keep Santa in your thoughts! He has a strong spirit and I hope he makes it!
But justice must be served by all means and
I not willing to let this go. Please share if you support my initiative! Thank
you!
