A woman from Selma, Alabama has been booked and charged after police
officers discovered to harshly malnourished dogs at her home.
As soon as the authorities received a tip about a possible animal
neglect case, they proceeded to investigate. Police officers arrived at the
house and were shocked to see a severely underweight dog chained outside – the
dog’s ribs and hip bones were visible entirely.
Another dog, tied to a thick metal chain, was also discovered
nearby. The dog was no longer alive by the time deputies arrived. A vet report
later indicated that the pet had not been fed for an extended period of time.
Police discovered two containers in the yard – both of them were
dry. One was tuned upside down, while the other one was full of leaves. No
other source of water and food was visible anywhere close to the dogs.
The owner, 41-year-old Heather Lynn Bentley (pictured on the right)
arrived at the house shortly after police officers had responded to the call.
She was booked and charged on the spot. During police interviews, she stated
the canines belonged to a friend that had left them in her care three months
before. She says she regrets the outcome of her gross neglect and claimed she
could not find the necessary time to feed them regularly. As you might notice,
she had plenty of time to feed herself, however.
If she knew she was unable to look after the dogs, all she had to do
is call a local animal rescue agency. Volunteers would have been more than
happy to care for the dogs until their owner came back for them. Instead, she
left these defenseless creatures to starve for weeks.
I started this petition because I want this heartless woman to be
prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There is absolutely no excuse for
what she did and I am hoping to pursue the judge to impose a harsh jail term
against Heather Lynn Bentley.
No mercy should be spared against the defendant, just like Ms.
Bentley spared no mercy when she decided to leave her dogs without food and
water for weeks.
Support the maximum penalty available by law by signing and sharing
this petition now. Many thanks for the support.
