South Korea is set to host the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang,
one of its most famous montanuous resorts. Probably most of you are aware that
South Korea is a nation where dog meat consumption is still legal. Not only is
it legal, but the nation is one of the leading Asian countries in this
category, with thousands and thousands of dogs boiled alive only be cooked for
their meat.
I am deeply disappointed that South Korea is allowed to host such a
wonderful and prestigious event like the Olympics. A country that hosts such
events should share the same values as the Olympics and this is certainly no the
case. What will organizers do when they greet team members and high-ranking
officials? Take them out to dinner and serve them dog meat?
It is South Korea’s decision to ban or not dog meat. But keeping the
trade alive should come with serious repercussions, and one of them is having
them stripped of their right to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.
It is not impossible to overturn this decision. Other cities are
eager to replace PyeongChang and host the event themselves.
Let’s make it happen!
