5.233 NEEDED
Ukraine is getting ready to host the 2017 edition of the famous
Eurovision song contest in between the 9th and 13th of
May. Authorities are doing everything in their power to ensure this event will
go as smoothly as possible and have deployed special troops to deal with all
potential threats: all street dogs have been included in this category.
It is a pool of blood in Kiev right now. Dozens of harmless dogs are
unfairly targeted by the authorities as we speak: some are shot, some are
baited with poisoned food and end up suffering tremendously before their
passing, others are hit in the head with bladed objects. It doesn’t really
matter what method is used, as long as they are taken off the streets. Few
canines are lucky to escape; even if they make it alive at the end of the day,
no one can tell if they will survive the next one.
We, the undersigned, are completely outraged by the way authorities
have handled this issue. The world will not remember that Kyiv was not filled
with stray dogs, but rather the methods used to dispose of these helpless
animals. Just because they don’t have a home does not give anyone the right to
harm them.
We urge authorities to immediately stop this disgusting campaign and
implement humane methods to deal with the stray dog overpopulation, such as implementing
spay-and-neuter campaigns, building shelters to house these animals and setting
up adoptings schemes. This is the right course of action, long-term solutions
that have proven to work in such situation!
Please take action to help the stray dogs of Kiev, they need our
help more than ever! Thank you for caring.
