Do not let China host the World Dog Show in 2019, they eat dogs over there!

It has been a true shock for me to learn that China has had the audacity to place a bid to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale to become host nation for the 2019 edition of the World Dog Show, the most important canine competition on the planet. What is even more astonishing and outrageous is the fact that an allegedly competent and unabiased jury has decided to award China this right!

I’m just sitting here and thinking if those members of the jury are actually insane. In case readers of this petition don’t know, over two million dogs are eaten in China each year. Pets are grabbed from people’s home by authorized snatchers and sold for their meat to restaurants; authorities have been caught numerous times hitting people’s pets with sticks in broad daylight from various reason – for instace, the owners didn’t have the pet’s ID upon him. Then there is the Yulin Festival – the biggest dog meat gathering on Earth, with more than 15, 000 dogs brought from all across China to be eaten in just a matter of days. Moreover, China has no animal protection laws, which basically means that anyone can mistreat an animal in the most ruthless possible way and walk away scott-free.

Overall, it is a huge understatement to say that China’s animal welfare record is poor. It is a true disaster. And allowing a nation with no consideration for the welfare of so many animals to host such a prestigious canine event is truly staggering and inexplicable.

Given all the conditions presented above, we firmly believe that allowing China to host the 2019 edition of the World Dog Show would be a huge mistake.

We, the undersigned, hereby urge the Fédération Cynologique Internationale to rescind the decision and not allow this event to be hosted in China! There are plenty other countries that have showed compassion towards animals that are definitely better fit to host this event.
