Justice For Betsy – thrown in the trash because she refused to fight!

I cannot really express how I feel after learning about Betsy’s heartbreaking story. Words simply fail me. I am so disappointed that people can be so evil and downright inconsiderate.

Poor Betsy never bothered anyone. She is as gentle as any dog can be. Yet she is now battling for her life and facing the dire prospect of multiple surgeries – all extremely complex ones.

Betsy was discovered barely alive on the streets of Istanbul. A group of good Samaritans decided not to turn a blind eye on the helpless animal and took her to a vet. Even doctors were shocked to see Betsy’s state of health.

Everything in her body was simply torn – her muzzle, lips and part of her legs were completely shredded; her skull and lower jaw bone were exposed. Although her skin is rather thick, the damages caused by repeated bites was too much for her.

All of this because gently Betsy refused to fight. Her owners thus decided to teach her a lesson she would never forget: they ordered other dogs to attack her and do as much damage as they could, before dumping the defenseless creature and leaving her to perish.

Betsy is in terrible pain as we speak. But she is strong and does not cry, holding her ground bravely.

Betsy is one of the thousands of victims of dog fights in Turkey, which continue to be hosted regularly, all over the country. During all this time, authorities have done nothing to crack down on these inhumane events. There are numerous videos online posted by dog fighters themselves who took to social media to advertise their place of business.

Police in Turkey are never investigating such events and this has allowed people from this sick industry to have their way unconditionally.

The suffering of thousands of dogs must come to an end! These innocent souls are used as bait and forced into these terrible events so people can be entertained. It is absolutely revolting that this is still allowed to happen in a country aspiring to become a European Union member soon.

Demand an immediate reform in Turkey and ask officials to make a priority out of stopping dog figths and severely punishing the people that attend and organize them.

We owe it to Betsy to try and make this deep and necessary change as soon as possible!

In the meantime, please keep this beautiful baby in our thoughts; we can only hope she will make a speedy recovery.
