525 NEEDED
At first glance, the video attached to this petition might seem funny, but it is anything but that: it is a true statement of the daily plight of horses in Colombia.
This horse was left to hang in mid air after his ignorant owner managed to overload his carriage in the most egrocious way possible. One has to wonder what was the owner thinking, as it is quite clear that the helpless animal isn’t capable of carrying even half the load his owner wanted him to do.
The sad reality is that most horses are force to endure such treatment: they obliged to work 12 hours a day (or more), regardless of the weather – sweltering heat or cold, rainy days; they receive little food and water and no shelter during the day.
They work until they collapse; when no longer needed, they are thrown away like disposable objects.
There is absolutely no law governing these horses at the moment, so owners are free to mistreat them at their free will.
During the video, the animal can be seen desperately trying to get himself free, but without any success.
It is unclear what happened to this horse; most likely, his owner – who can be seen smiling during the footage – has removed the load and got the animal down.
But tomorrow the same treatment is likely to occur once again. We can’t let this happen on and on! This has been going along for far too long.
Demand a national legislation to protect horses in Colombia. A
strict set of guidelines for the working horses need to be drawn up and voted
in as soon as possible. These rules should also include a provision that
whoever is caught breaching the law will be harshly sanctioned.
