The photo on the left shows Aaron Weilding and his lovely
girlfriend, Selina Gibson. They live in Edlington, Doncaster, UK and used to
own two beautiful pet dogs. But their understanding of keeping a dog is as
worse as it can get. This heartless couple neglected their dogs so badly until
they passed away; they took it upon
themselves to starve the pets in their backyard for weeks and weeks and did not
give it a thought. As you can see in the pictures, both Mr. Weilding and Ms.
Gibson made sure they never skipped a meal.
Meanwhile, their two dogs were left in tremendous pain and suffering
in the backyard. They were kept on a heavy chaines, basically unable to move,
and were deprived of food and water for weeks. No one ever bothered to check on
them. When one of the dogs sadly passed away due to the lack of food, the other
one started eating him, in a desperate attempt to stay alive. The only things
left of the dog are its jaws. Despite doing everything he could to survive, the
second canine didn’t make it through either.
During the trial, the couple expressed remorse with regards to their
carelessness and stated they simply forgot about the dogs in their yard. To me,
it is absolutely disturbing and surreal that someone can ‘forget’ that he owns
pets. Not one, but two. The pain through which these helpless souls were forced
to go through cannot be described in words. But despite the ruthlessness of
their actions, the couple was only handed a suspended jail term and a fine.
This effectively means they will not spend a single day behind bars.
How can this be a fair outcome after all they put these dogs
through?
Unfortunately, this is yet another case from the United Kingdom in
which perpetrators end up walking away with a slap on the wrist and no justice
is served. There have been far too many similar cases in the past few years. It
is becoming more obvious that the Animal Welfare Act of 2006 is completely outdated
and needs to be reviewed as soon as possible. The maximum penalty for cruelty
to animals is a mere six months jail term – but please note that the maximum
penalty is rarely applied, because defendants usually agree to plea deals.
Please support tougher sentences for such types of offences and urge
the British judicial system to pay more importance to animal welfare! Animals
deserve better and a strong message that abusing animals is unacceptable needs
to be presented to the British public.
Thank you for your support.
