A deputy with the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico from Veracruz has caused quite a stir in the party and on social media after initiating a bill that would be a disaster of animal welfare in the above mentioned state .
The bill, initiated by deputy Juan Eduardo Robles Castellanos, brings in a lot of negative issues with regards to animal welfare in Veracruz.
To be more specific, pet owners will be able to have their dogs and cats euthanized at any given point if they no longer wish to keep them. The document also states that police K-9 dogs can also be euthanized once they have served their ‘useful’ life in the service of public interest.
Furthermore, local Animal Control facilities will be given the liberty to decide the fate of the stray dogs on their own terms – if the strays are regarded as a ‘nuisance’ and no other alternative is found, the animals can be captured from the streets and the city’s sanitary control team may perform euthanasia procedures at any point.
The bills is even more outrageous and inexplicable since the Green Party gained a lot of votes in the most recent elections after launching a platform that emphasized and encouraged welfare towards wild and domesticated animals.
We, the undersigned, are extremely disappointed with Mr. Castellano’s views on stray animals and deeply hope this is not the position of the Green Party in its integrity. We would hereto like to inform deputy Castellano we completely disagree with the measures in the proposed bill and urge the governor of Veracruz to reject it should it gets the necessary votes in the state assembly.
Deputy Castellano has proven to everyone he is an ignorant and insensitive person with a limited vision on matters related to animal welfare. He has betrayed all the voters that had put his faith in him to come up with humane and viable solutions to the animals.
The state of Veracruz has worked tremendously towards a culture of ethics and responsibility towards animals. It would be a true shame to see such efforts go down the drain.
Urge lawmakers not to support the bill initiated by deputy
Castellano by signing and sharing this petition now!
