This monster has absolutely no shame in showing he is an avid cat meat lover. He is a cat meat trader in Tu Son, Vietnam and recalls that in his best days he can apprehend and cook as many 30 cats. Not only has he become accustomed to the job, but has developed a real passion for it, as the photos suggest.
The trader, indentified as Nguyá»…n Văn TÃn, is working relentlessly to catch as many cats as he cat. He later sells them to private cooks or restaurants or keeps them to himself.
Mr. TÃn describes cat meat as his favourite dish. He loves to bang the helpless moggies in the head with iron bars, before roasting them while the poor animals are still conscious. They meow in distress, but there is no one there to save them. As if this was not enough, TÃn frequently takes photos of his prey (with a big, euthusiastic smile on his face) and uploads them on Facebook.
Unfortunately, there are no animal welfare laws in Vietnam and the cat meat industry is legal and thriving. The cats of Vietnam have no protection whatsoever and it is a true shame no regulations are in place. In fact, the situation could not be any worse, given the fact that a considerable number of high-ranking politicians have been seen dining at cat meat restaurants across Hanoi on different occasions. In other words, the people that should be busy outlawing this despicable industry are actually supporting it directly.
TÃn claims this is a great time to be in the business. He says he is doing tremendously well and has no intention of stopping.
The only way to ensure TÃn’s cat cooking days are over is by pursuing Vietnamese officials to implement animal welfare laws. The cat meat industry must come to an end. Cats make terrific pets. They are the ones that will give you a warm welcome after a long day at the office; they love to play – with their owners or by themselves – and are guaranteed to make anyone laugh. In addition, studies have shown that cat owners have 40 per cent lower risk for heart attack or stroke. Cats are pets, they are not food!
