Two women from Syracuse, New York state have been booked and charged with misdemeanor animal neglect for refusing to feed their dog in what seems to be weeks. The dog in the photo was rescued by A/C officers and brought to DeWitt Animal Hospital in extremely poor condition. All the bones in his body could be visible and he barely had energy to stand up and walk on his own. He was definitely on his last resources.
After an investigation into this matter, local law enforcement managed to track down the dog’s owners: they are Mary Paro, 47 (pictured left), and Ali Hemingway, 22 (pictured right).
While the reasons behind their awful actions still remains a
mistery, you can see that the two women took the time to look after themselves
and never skipped a meal during the whole time they neglected their pet dog.
Reports indicate that the dog is doing better and has been slowly gaining weight. He is in good spirits, in spite of the things he had to endure.
The two were charged with failing to provide proper sustenance for a pet and were set free, after they were issued an appearance ticket to court.
We, the undersigned, are extremely disappointed that the two women have only been charged with mismedeamor. We feel that given their ruthlessness and staggering lack of compassion they should be treated as felons. To me, it is absolutely unacceptable to knowingly leave your dog without food and water for that much time. I can’t even begin to imagine the suffering of that sweet baby!
They cannot be allowed to walk away with a slap on the wrist!
Demand that NY state judicial authorities upgrade the charges and that these two women serve mandatory jail time!
