These heartbreaking and revolting images were taken on the streets of Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia. Public workers have received orders to eliminate as many stray dogs as they can. This is the end result of their merciless actions.
Since the authorities have failed miserably to find a decent, humane solution to the problem of stret dog overpopulation, they are now trying to cover up their own mess and are choosing the easy way out: massive culling campaigns.
Workers operate mainly during the night, not to arouse any
suspicions and avoid possible disturbance caused by animal rights activitists.
Dogs are poisoned or shot without remorse and tossed in trucks, which are
loaded and shipped at the outskirts of the city every morning.
An outraged animal lover captured a film of a stray dog shortly after the pooch was attacked. The poor creature was left to bleed, in a terrible state of health, on the cold pavement. The dogs howls in distress as the people that came across him try to confort him in the last moments on Earth.
This is just one example of what is happening right now in Tunis and in other cities across the country!
We need your help to force the authorities to resconsider this
outrageous plan and give the stray dogs a chance to life. No creature deserves
this treatment.
There are other viable and humane options to resolve the issue of street dogs, such as spay and neuter campaigns, which are far more effective and cheaper, as numerous studies have pointed out. Buliding shelters to house the animals and initiating adopting schemes are other measures that should be taken into account.
There have been numerous veterinarians and volunteers that are offering free sterilization and vaccination schemes, but the government has refused to promote such programs on a nationwide scale.
Eliminating these dogs in this inhumane manner and causing them so much suffering is an option we cannot accept.

stray dogs!
