The appalling video in which a group of teenage bikers severely
mistreat a harmeless animal surfaced on social media. The video was first
posted in February 2015 and was filmed in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city. Unfortunately,
due to the lack of animal protection laws in the country, no justice has been
achieved in this case and, furthermore, the plight of dogs all across this
country has only gotten worse since the events in the video occurred.
The video was filmed by one of the members of the group. The bikers
are running along smoothly and before one of them comes across a dog that was
peacefully sitting on the bridge. It took just one sign and all the other
bikers stopped and approached the dog. Instead of petting or feeding the poor
animal, these vicious teens start kicking and stomping on him repeatedly,
before one of them uses his motorbike to step on the canine’s head as he
screams in despair. Each member of the group enjoyed the attack, as they were
laughing and cheering. They were not done even after the dog was no longer
alive. These heartless bikers tied a red ribbon around his neck and proceeded
to tie him up to their vehicle and drag him around, while taking ‘trophy’
photos.
The bikers involved in this sick and cowardly attack were later
identified on social media, but police took absolutely no interest in solving
this issue (even if they had expressed some desire to apprehend the
perpetrators, there was no legal basis on which charges could have been brought).
Vietnam is one of the biggest consumers of dog meat in the world.
The dog meat industry is booming and thousands of animals are treated
inhumanely each year, while the government has failed to take any measure to
stop their plight. This has to change because their pain and suffering has
become unbearable.
Support a compelling animal welfare legislation in Vietnam that will
put an end to the dog meat trade and apply punishment to anyone mistreating an
animal for any given reason.
Help make a difference for the animals in Vietnam!
