A shocking video has emerged online showing two Marine Crops soldiers destroying a helpless stray puppy in a way few of us thought it would be possible.
The cowardly soldiers can be seen dragging the helpless animal with the help of a catching pole all the way to the city’s seaside cliff. They chain the dog to a heavy weight and throw him over the cliff and leave him there, squeezing the life out of him. The dog is suspended by a chain on the embankment, just above sea levels. The dog does have some space to move and desperately tries to escape, but is powerless. In an attempt to calm the dog once and for all, one of the attackers pounds the animal in the head with a stick several times and shouts: I hope you won’t be this stupid in your next life – before starting to sing the Marine Corps’ motto. Meanwhile, his partner was filming the entire scene with his mobile phone.
The appalling incident took place in the coastal city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where military police was summoned to terminate as many stray dogs as possible, because they are a menace to the city’s development and well being. This is the end result of the campaign. The soldiers are believed to be part of the Kaohsiung West Bay Marine Corps military police.
Animal rights activists have been extremely furious about this incident. The Association Kaohsiung care of stray animals has labeled the attack as ruthless and appalling and has called for an immediate investigation into this matter. A spokesperson with the Taiwan Animal Emergency Rescue team has deemed the incident as unacceptable.
We, the undersigned, are appalled to have read about this news and we demand that the soldiers involved in this cowardly attack are relieved of all duties and prosecuted as soon as possible. We also call on the local authorities to immediately stop the culling campaign and instead find humane alternatives to the stray dog issue.
