Avon is one of the most popular cosmetic companies in the world. It was a sales pioneer, after opting not to sell their produts through fashion stores, but opted for representatives that could go door to door and have a face-to-face interaction with potential customers.
What none of those Avon representatives pointed out is the fact that the company is testing its products on a variety of animals. These helpless creatures, trapped in Avon research labs for ‘scientific purposes’ are routinely burned, crippled and poisoned for the sake of beauty! After they are done with, some are too ill to live and are just euthanized. Some are tossed away like litter and forced to manage on their own with severe disabilities.
A large chunk of these tests take place in China, where testing on animals is a requirement for all beauty products. But instead of walking away from the Chinese market, Avon has chosen money and fame over morality. Other beauty companies have refused to enter the Chinese market as long as mandatory animal tests continue to be imposed and I sincerely wished Avon had followed suit.
This is the true cost of our favourite beauty product. I really like Avon and have been using them for years. To learn such a thing makes me feel betrayed and deeply saddened.
The company has been endorsed by celebrities such as Salma Hayek, Olivia Wilde, Reese Witherspoon (photo above) and Fergie throughout the years, which has seen the company’s imagine given a major boost.
Please take action with me right now and urge Avon to cease all
animal tests immediately. The suffering of those animals is not worth anything
in this world! We urge Avon to immediately exit all markets that require
mandatory testing on animals and lobby for removal of such requirements instead
of making a huge fortunate as a result of the suffering of countless animals.
NO MORE ANIMAL TESTING IN AVON RESEARCH LABS IS OUR UTMOST DESIRE FROM OUR FAVOURITE BEAUTY COMPANY.
Esteemed CEO McCoy, please don’t ignore our plea, for the sake of the
animals!
Yours sincerely,
A loyal customer
Here is what Avon says on their website with reference to animal testing
“Respect for animal welfare is a cornerstone of Avon's product safety philosophy. In fact, Avon was the first major cosmetic company to end animal testing nearly 25 years ago. […] Unfortunately, a few countries require additional safety testing, which may include animal testing. Avon, in partnership with other organizations, works to help advance government acceptance of alternative non-animal testing methods. But if a compromise cannot be reached, we must comply with the testing required by local law. Animal testing is an issue faced by all global beauty companies.â€
