Pratham Shah and his friends headed to one of Mumbai’s splendid
beaches to spend a relaxing day out. As he entered the white, sandy beaches, he
spotted a puppy sleeping in an extremely ackward position. Shah, who is a huge
animal lover, decided to take a closer look. As he approached and woke up the
puppy, the terrified pooch started to ‘crawl’ around, heading towards his
direction. Pratham immediately realized that the dog could not move his hind
legs and that the canine was paralyzed. In addition, the puppy was extremely emaciated
and was described as a mere ‘sack of bones’. He also had numerous wounds all
over this body, a sign of extreme neglect and mistreatment.
Shah took the dog back to his place, offered him food, water and
shelter and looked up online to find a NGO that would be able to take care of after
him. Since Pratham had previously adopted a cat and a dog, he did not have
sufficient space to take in another dog. ‘Animals Matter To Me’ finally came to
the rescue. Dr. Ankita Pathak treated the puppy, dubbed Chocho, and determined
that one leg might be saved after all. One thing is certain: the dog will be
able to live a peaceful and confortable life from now.
Unfortunately, not the same can be said about countless other dogs
that are left to fend for themselves on the cruel streets of Mumbai, one of the
biggest cities in the world. They live a life no dog should go through: not
knowing if they will survive the next day. They are routinely abused by derange
people, forced to avoid Mumbai’s heavy traffic and obliged to find some food
and water to survive. Their life has been a constant struggle to make ends
meet.
During all this time, authorities have done nothing productive to
improve their well being. Mumbai is in desperate need of spay-and-neuter
campaigns as well as shelters to house these animals. Furthermore, financially
aiding NGOs that help the strays should also be a main topic of focus. Up to
this point, none of the above measures have been taken.
Please show your support and demand a better life for these dogs. No
living creature should experience this. Mumbai’s strays need our help
immediately, please do not let them down!
