Hundreds of curious and cheerful spectators gathered to watch a terrible display of dog fights at a public event that took place near the city of Jiyuan, Henan province in China.
The inhumane event was organized by two
local dog clubs and attracted over 60 big dog owners that were adamant to prove
their canines were the best in the ring.
During the event, the dogs are pushed to attack each other until only one canine is able to stand on its feet and is therefore considered the “winnerâ€.
As a result of these bouts, many dogs are left with terrible injuries – their ears and tails are completely damaged in many cases and need amputation. Sometimes dogs pass away as a result of their wounds.
Before the start of the match, dog owners can be seen tighly holding their canines on to the scruff as they encourage them to be the best. During the match, they are actively encouraging their dogs to follow the game plan.
There is also a referee – dressed in a red tracksuit, he is trying to control the bout and uses a stick to separate the dogs from time to time.
Spectators seem to be enjoying themselves. They often can be heard clapping and cheering and one woman even takes out a camcorder and videtapes the fight – probably as a sick souvenir!
Organizers deemed the event as a major success and are planning to return next year.
The tradition of dog fights dates for a very
long time in China. Although it is not widespread, these events do occur in
China and since there are no animal protection laws, they are legally held.
China’s laws on animals can only prosecute a person if they cause harm to a dog or another animal that has a legal owner.
Please urge the Chinese authorities to crack
down on this inhumane event and prevent this form of entertainment from taking place next year. Do not let these
sick monsters harm more dogs for the thrill of it. Those dogs do not have a
voice and cannot chose for themselves. If they had the possibility to speak,
they would definitely say they are not interested in taking part in these
events just so people can be entertained!
