A video posted on social media aims to take a look at how animals
are treated in illegal abattoirs across Asia. The video was brought to viewers
by a Chinese activist – the facility in which the footage was taken is believed
to be somewhere in mainland China.
The video is shocking, to say the least and casts an extremely dark
shadow on the Chinese farm practices.
A cow can be seen pushed through some sort of tunnel; her head is
pinned immediately with the help of a huge metal bar. The poor animal is then
turned upside down as a properly-equipped worker approaches and slashes the
cow. Blood starts to pour as the animal shackes heavily. In just a matter of
seconds, all the blood is squeezed out of the body. The animal is let to and
transferred to a neighboring compartment, where the poor animal is skinned
while still conscious.
A few moments after, another cow enters this gruesome facility and
will experience the same fate.
The main reason these practices are allowed to happen is because
China has systematically failed to implement animal welfare laws, which means
that none of the workers will ever be held accountable for these inhumane
practices (the same goes for the operators of these facilities). In fact, many
of these abattoirs have no license whatsoever and have been 100 per cent
illegaly set up (in order to cut costs). China has no guide on how to humanely
put down animals, which leads to the cases presented in the video.
The suffering of these innocent cows is extremely hard to describe
in words.
Meanwhile, there has been little progress towards animal welfare
laws in China and a adequate farming rules.
This inhumane treatment of animals must come to an end. We demand
that the Chinese government takes a stand against these illegal facilities and
cracks down on illicit farming practices. No more cut corners and no more
suffering.
Demand a humane procedures for all farm animals in China!
