This is China in 2016, the country that aims to become the world’s
biggest economy and a super power. What type of leadership can China provide if
such terrible images are all too common in the country?
I am asking every compassionate soul out there to take a firm stand
against all the inhumane treatment of man’s best friend in China and help get
the vicious dog meat banned and animal welfare laws approved.
Everything about how China approaches the issue of animal rights is
wrong. First of all, even authorities themselves have been spotted in numerous
occasions hitting dogs with shovels under various reasons - all of them truly
absurd (for instance, the dog is believed to have rabies or it belonged to a
homeless person). In one of the most extreme cases I have encountered, pet
owners from an entire village were informed that they would have to get rid of
their beloved animals, or public servants will terminate them.
Then there is the dog meat trade and the infamous Yulin dog meat
festival – where over 10, 000 dogs are cooked in just three days. But dog
meat is prepared all year round, in every corner of the country. To meet
increasing demand, traders collect all the street dogs they can get their hands
on and even steal people’s pets; dogs are later ripped apart and either
barbecued, skewered or prepared as stew. Dog meat can also be marinated in
chili and coriander, for an extra special flavor (as you can see, the
imagination of these people knows no limits).
Please help end this despicable trade for good! We need as many signatures as we can collect to put pressure on the Chinese government to adopt the country's first animal rights law and consequently end the vicious dog meat trade for good.
Your signature could make a huge difference for these dogs, so
please don’t hesitate to show your support. Many thanks for your compassion and
love.
