China, 2017: These have to be one of the most appalling images to have ever been taken in the history of mankind. Pet dogs – stolen from their loving owners – get skinned alive in broad daylight, for everyone to see.
The process of skinning dogs alive has gotten so mundane that no one
actually intervenes, simply because they have gotten so used to it.
In 21st century China – the country aiming to become the world’s global leader – over 50, 000 dogs are skinned alive and cooked every day (rough estimates). Over 10 – 15 million each and every year!
Take a closer look at these haunting images – this is how China behaves towards animals!
The dog meat trade has become a multi billion dollar industry – while everyone involved in this trade gains financially, these innocent dogs are subjected to inhumane and degrading treatments each day.
Traders routinely round up all the street dogs they can get their hands on; to meet demand, they also steal people’s pets. In a series of disturbing videos posted on YouTube, snatchers can be seen barging into people’s yards and taking their dogs away. Those heartbroken owners will never get to see their beloved voiceless companions again.
Dog meat is popular almost in any time of the year – but the busiest period is in June, when the Yulin dog meat festival is held in the southern part of the country. Over 10, 000 dogs are shipped from all across China specifically for this event. Dogs are crammed in tiny cages (often have their limbs broken to fit in), before they are barbecued / boiled alive – all in a culinary feast that lasts for three days and nights.
China is currently no animal protection laws and dog meat consumption is legal – providing that vendors can fork up so-called “health certificates†– whch, in practice, almost never exist or end up being forged. Authorities have been looking the other way for far too long, in spite of the fact that dog meat is the main cause for spreading rabies to humans (and the region where the Yulin festival is held has the biggest rabies per human in the world).
Help end this vile trade today! Please support this campaign and demand China implements animal welfare laws and bans dog meat completely.
Aside from supporting this campaign, which targets the central authorities in Beijing, please also try to get in touch with the Chinese embassy of your country of residence and ask them to take action against the vicious dog meat trade.
Do not let this grotesque trade continue and please take action right now!
