Soni found Johnny, a sweet black dog at his front gate yesterday in
Bandung, Bali, Indonesia with his head sliced open. Although Soni doesn't have
any experience with dogs (and is not really a dog person) he knew he had to
help Johnny and called his friend Johnsen to help (who Johnny the dog was named
after)
Johnsen called Dr Waldy from Sidakarya who tried to give him treatment on the spot, but to see the wounds the doctor was shaking too and even suggested to put him to sleep.
But Johnsen saw Johnny was still able to walk, and his eye still focused so he decided to give Johnny a second chance and organised surgery. Dr Waldy obliged and did an amazing job! However, because Johnny lost so much blood and the surgery was long the doctor couldn't take out the slashed eye at that time.
Johnny has since been transferred to Dr Listriani Clinic and further surgery is underway to remove his eye and rehabilitate him. It is believed his wounds were inflicted by an axe by someone with no heart and soul. It was obviously an intentional act as this could no way be an accident (and the dog couldn’t have done this by himself).
His photos quickly went viral when Johnsen asked for help. Michele Yoga took it on to fundraise for Johnny as did Sara. Together through social media they have collected enough funds for Johnny so far.
Unfortunately, because Bali has no animal protection laws, there
will be no investigation in this case, since there is no legal base to pursue
any action. The fundamental problem is that lawmakers on the island have yet to
adopt laws that will alow the judicial system to prosecute such evil people (or
monsters, I should say). Animals need to start being treated with the respect
they deserve and should be considered sentient beings!
Help Bali approve laws that will see people that hurt animals punished! The island cannot afford to have such people roaming loose around!
