The photos were taken in the vibrant neighborhood of Crespo in Cartagena, Colombia. This poor soul was callously hung from a tree simply because she was suffering from mange. For those who do not have pets and are not familiar with such types of diseases, mange is a skin infection that can be cured 100 per cent quite cheaply, with the help of a few baths and special injections.
Rather than take the poor dog to a vet to receive appropriate treatment, they just hung this poor baby.
The issue of animal rights needs to be addressed immediately in Cartagena – first there are the numerous horses that are exploited continuously as tourist attractions. Despite numerous promises, horse-drawn carriages have yet to be banned in the beautiful coastal city. Now, subhumans are going after innocent dogs!
A local plan to deal with this issues needs to be implemented as soon as possible. There are still a lot of street animals in Cartagena and the population is not aware of the benefits of having a dog or what is means – see this example, this dog has her life cut short simply becaue her owners were not aware that a cheap treatment would have saved her.
The authorities must build shelters to
ensure the wellbeing of all the street dogs. In addition, implementing animal
police squads to patrol the city and apprehend those who harm animals would
also be a solution to the problem.
Right now, the only plan coming from the authorities is pure indifference! This situation must change before other animals suffer as a result of this blatant carelessness exhibited by local officials.
