Chinese social media is erupting after a cruel man published a live-stream
of himself cutting a puppy into pieces. The outrageous incident unfolded on
January 17th. One day before the dissection, the attacker posted a
few photos of the puppy being tied up and severely abused.
In the broadcast, the man claims this was all a plot to get back at
a group of animal lovers, who had caused a traffic jam a few months ago in
order to rescue a group of dogs in distress; because of this traffic jam, the
attacker missed the opportunity to say good-bye to a a very sick relative, that
passed away that day.
The shocking imagines of the tiny pooch were posted on Weibo,
China’s version of Twitter, under the account I have puppy here.
The footage, deeply unsettling, shows how the canine is all tied up,
as the man grabs a scalpel and proceeds to cut the helpless animal into pieces.
The dog howls in pain, asking for help, but there is no one around.
The video went viral shorly after being published. Weibo management
decided to take it down, but the footage resurfaced.
According to current laws and regulations, live-streaming
dissections on animals is not illegal, as long as uploaders ensure the
broadcast is carried out for research or medical purposes – which is,
obviously, not the case. On the other hand, if such live videos lead to major
public unrest and protests, this may go against Chinese civil law. Lawyers
questioned by the Peoples' Daily Online newspaper claim that building such a case will be
extremely difficult to accomplish.
This case perfectly illustrates the need for China to adopt animal
welfare laws. Animals matter as well and they must be conferred protection!
Millions of animals are abused each year in China and nothing is being done
about this. Too many perpetrators have walked free, due to the lack of proper
legislation.
Please support my petition and urge the Chinese government to adopt
animal welfare laws as soon as possible, so these types of abuses can be
sanctioned with steep fines and jail time.
Help make China a better place for animals!
