Help get justice for this dog from Iran!

The troubing video is currently being shared on various social media platforms. It shows a discontent shepherd taking out all his rage out on a defenseless dog.

He starts pounding the defenseless animal with a stick in front of a pack of canines, who start barking in support for their mate, but are reluctant to intervene out of fear of retaliation. Two shephers witness the incident and confront the man, but are quickly kicked off the property. No one is left to protect that innocent soul, who is spotted lying motionless in the grass as the video end.

The scene was taken in the town of Ardebil, in north-western part of Iran.

This is hardly an isolated incident in the country. Just last week, a video of a mother dog and her litter of puppies left to hang from ropes in the wind went viral on social media. Authorities in Tehran have themselves launched numerous dog culling campaigns in an effort to get rid of the pesky stray dogs in the most terrible possible ways.

I sincerely hope that this new political journey in which Iran has embarked on – relaunching ties with Western countries as oil sanctions have been lifted for the first time in over 15 years – will also bring an important and much-needed change for the animals in Iran as well: it is essential that Members of Parliament and the President focus their attention on animal welfare as well.

We, the undersigned, hereby demand a natiowide bill in which animals are granted the protection they deserve, and anyone caught harming animals in any way is automatically prosecuted and receives a mandatory jail term.
