This inhumane event is known as the ‘Torneo de Lazo’ and is held each year in the Mexican state of Yucatán.

What does this festival actually consist of? Essentially, bulls and horses are placed in the arena as the bulls are given indications to attack. The bulls proceed to running the horses down, hitting them with with their sharp horns until the horses are cut open and left with severe injuries, such as open wounds. But none of the horses will receive any medical attention whatsoever. They are left to perish and die, humiliated and in pain.

Exclusive: Punish thugs that cut dog’s ears off and posed for photos!

This event draws large chunks of people, who find this entertaining and can be heard clapping and cheering throughout the bouts. These events are supposed to be against the law, but local officials (including mayors and other high-ranking politicians) have chosen to look the other way and allow this suffering of these innocent horses to continue unabiased. Many local activists claim that the authorities are being heavily and continuously bribed by organizers of these events.

Besides buying influence, organizers claim they have a lot to prepare for ahead of each of such events. Bulls that are used in the ‘Torneo de Lazo’ are specially trained to ram horses and inflict maximum pain. On the other hand, the horses have absolutely no chance of walking out of the arenas alive. They are ultimately left to bleed their life out of them in front of an euthusiastic and cheering crowd – even more troubling, on many occasions children as young as 7 years old are brought to such events. What will they come to think of all this inhumanity? They will grow up believing that is absolutely fine to abuse animals. The irresponsible parents that choose to attend the events alongside their children as guilty and unconscious as organizers themselves.

At one point, these events became so popular that even Coca-Cola was sponsoring them and was selling their well-known beverages during the competition. It is unclear if Coca-Cola is still advertising during the ‘Torneo de Lazo’.

I am deeply shocked and appalled that these gruesome and inhumane shows are considered ‘entertainment’ by so many people. There is absolutely nothing funny about seeing an animal fight for its life and ultimately perish in deep agony. Horses are, without doubt, one of nature’s most majestic creatures, they do not deserve to be subjected to such type of treatment under any circumstances.

I am extremely sad and shocked to learn that such ‘festivals’ are still allowed to take place in the 21st century.

I am hereby calling on the authorities of Yucatán to step up and ban these events once and for all and thus put a stop to the needless suffering of countless of innocent horses.

Please show your support for a ban on ‘Torneo de Lazo’ by signing and sharing this campaign today. Please do not turn your back on these innocent horses that are desperately seeking our help.

A badly injured horse, waiting to give his last breath. But that doesn't stop the crowd to gather around and cheer.

This is how horses are left after the events.
