Take dog meat off the menu in Nigeria!

Nigeriacamera decided to do a news report about the up-and-coming trend of dog meat that is happening in the country. A reporter was sent to the outskirts of Lagos and find out more about this new culinary habit.

During 6-minute video, which was posted on Facebook, we find out that the dogs are barbecued right on the side of the road. No permit or license is needed whatsoever. We find out from the man in charge that he feels ‘that he isn’t doing any harm to the dogs when he is cooking them’. We also learn that dog meat is becoming increasingly popular. Then, viewers can be walked through the entire cooking process, including the seasoning of the meat. At the end, the reporter decides to have a bite. She claims it is ‘nice and sweet’ and, for some reason, she is very amused by the situation. Not longer after the meal has been prepared, the first buyers come to check out the menu, and seem really pleased with what the find.

These dog barbecues are hardly isolated. They are spreading all over the country. If this current trend continues, it will not take long before dog meat will be sold in restaurants as well.

Eating man’s best friend is completely unacceptable. Please sign the petition and urge the central authorities to immediately outlaw the cooking of dogs in the country. For most people living in Western Civilizations (myself included) pets are regarded as members of the family, they should not end up on dinner plates in any circumstances.
