A woman from Urbana, Illinois that was caught on tape saying I put the puppy in the oven and baked him has
walked away scot free from several felony charges.
The defendant’s name is Kinny Redmon and the puppy belonged to her ex-boyfriend, Dimarrio Zander. The couple share a one-year-old child together (shared custody). Police reports indicate that after breaking up, the 24-year-old woman (pictured above) allowed her former lover to stay in her house a little longer, alongside his three-month-old pit bull puppy.
But things took a nasty turn one day. The two seemed to have gotten into a serious argument, and the woman decided to get revenge – in the most ruthless possible way, by involving an innocent puppy. Shortly after Zander went to work, the woman allegedly called him and briefly informed him to “come get his puppy out of the ovenâ€. In disbelief, the man returned to his house as quickly as possible. Upon his arrival, he was shocked to discover the oven turned at 300 degrees Fahrenheit and a chair pushed up the door. Inside, the charred remains of a puppy, who did not stand a chance of survival.
Things turned sourt when the case went to court. Although prosecutors presented a tape in which the woman confessed to her actions, the defense played down the incident, claiming it was not actually Redmon’s voice. When a video recording of her saying the same thing to a close friend that was visiting her in jail was played, the defense argued that it was only a conversation between two friends discussion a case and could certainly not constitute an admission of guilt.
It also turned out that Redmon did not own any mobile phones and the calls to her ex-lover were made from a public phone in the emergency department at the Carle Hospital. It all worked in the defence’s favour, it seems.
Zander initially acknowledged that Redmon was on the phone, but shortly after taking the stand, the man backtracked and only confirmed he was talking “to a womanâ€, refusing to confirm the caller’s identity. Most likely, Zander was reluctant to see the mother of his child end up behind bars. He therefore decided to give up justice to his best friend in favour of being a coward and a liar and protecting the perpetrator.
As a result, the jury decided to acquit Kinny Redmon and ler her walk free.
Although prosecutors claim there is nothing more they could have done, I am extremely disappointed with the outcome of this case. The state of Illinois is paying the finest district and state attorneys from taxpayers’ money to win cases such as these and ensure that justice is served. Mediocricy is not acceptable under any circumstances.
I will certainly have trouble sleeping at night if I know this monster is free to harm animals again. Please join me – we must stay strong and eventually justice must be served for that three-month-old defenseless puppy that never stood a chance in front of his attacker. I put my faith in the US judicial system – one of the most developed in the world – and I demand someone is held accountable for this outrageous incident!
