It is with great sorrow and disappointment that I must inform
readers of this petition about the inhumane and archaic practices that
companies such as Procter & Gamble are still using to determine the quality
of their products. We live in an era of technology and revolutionary science.
The world has evolved a great deal and I was hoping that both humans and
animals will end up benefiting a lot from this, but P&G just proved me
wrong.
It has come to my attention that beagle puppies are used as baits to
test on the quality of the products, for the ‘Head and Shoulders’ type-shampoo,
which is an anti-dandruff solution. The company is using these helpless canines
to ensure their products reach perfection.
While P&G has stopped testing products in the European Union so
it can comply with the EU cosmetic legislation, the company is still testing in
facilities in China, where mandatory animal testing are required and where the
lack of animal protection laws makes it very difficult to precisely monitor
these activities.
Unfortunately, the tendency of using beagle puppies in these
inhumane tests seems to be on the rise. For instance, the United Kingdom
government approved last year the construction of a beagle testing facility in
Yorkshire. Details are scarce at this point and it is still unclear if private
companies will have access to this facility
– and that includes Procter & Gamble too.
P&G has denied for a very long time that it continues to test
products on animals. But the evidence is clear: the fact that they are still
present on the Chinese markets means that innocent lives continue to be cut
short in the name of beauty and increased corporate profits.
We, the undersigned, are extremely disappointed to learn about these
inhumane testing procedures and sincerely hope they will be brought to an end
as soon as possible. Developing non-animal testing methods and investing in
research and development on a massive scale should constitute immediate
priorities for this company. In addition, while the products that are sold
within the EU borders are not tested on animals, those in China are for sure,
so we hereto ask P&G to reject the Chinese market and take a firm stand
against animal testing.
