Chendgu, China: Another incident coming from the world’s most populous country has emerged online. A group of cowardly people have been spotted viciously pounding a defenseless dog with the help of a hammer, before dismantling the animal and cooking him.
A witness managed to record a video of the abuse, which took place in broad daylight – a sign that the attackers were not even interested if anyone saw them. Most of the video is shaken and of relaticely poor quality, but at one point the man can be clearly seen using a large hammer to strike the dog in the head repeatedly.
The dog is tied to a concrete block and unable to run but he struggles to escape his tormentors.
A license plate can be seen in the video from a motorcycle, but this will be useless in tracking down the perpetrators, because China has failed to adopt any animal welfare laws at this point, meaning that there is technically no basis for prosecution.
Millions of animals are abused in China each year – pounded with metal objects, dragged behind cars or thrown from tall buildings. Dog meat is also legal – China being the host to one of the most controversial dog meat festivals in the world. In the meantime, authorities have refused to address the issue of animal rights, despite both domestic and international pressure.
The time for a change has come. Please voice your support for animal welfare laws in China by signing and sharing this petition. We must all inform the government that the plight of so many innocent creatures must come to an end.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
