Almost Home Animal Rescue group went on their daily quest to help
the animals in Suffolk County, Long Island. But nothing could prepare them for
what was to be in store on November 19th. The property of Veleda
Bailey, situated in Wyandanch, has been described as one of the worst sites of
cruelty to animals the rescue group has ever witnessed.
It all started when the rescue group disovered one of Bailey’s dogs
roaming free around the neighborhood, playing with some kids. When asked who
the pooch belonged to, the children pointed out to Bailey’s home. It was only
when they entered the property that the rescue group realized the full scale of
the disaster.
In the backyard, Genesis, a female black dog, was so emaciated every
bone in her body was visible. She was so weak, she was unable to stand on her
feet. After trying for a few moments to get up, the helpless animal collapsed
after taking just a couple of steps. Furthermore, Dove, a mother dog, was found
chained outside alongside her three puppies – she was significantly underweight
and in a very poor state of health. The most heartbreaking scene unfolded
moments after, when the body of a lifeless dog, Solider, was discovered nearby.
The dog was nothing but skin and bones and maggots had started to attack his
eyes. The lifeless dog was still chained to a tree upon being discovered.
The Suffolk County SPCA was immediately dispatched at the scene.
Investigators where baffled to notice that the 35-year-old owner seemed to care
less about all the agitation in the backyard. Here is how one member of the
rescue team described the scene:
‘She could not have cared less that we were in her yard. The SPCA
was taking photos, they were removing the dogs, meanwhile her kids were playing
on the other side of the fence and Bailey was flipping burgers, it was like a 4th
of July afternoon’
Five dogs and three puppies were removed from the premises and taken
to the hospital. They are now under medical supervision and are expected to
make a full recovery.
The owner admitted she hadn’t been feeding the dogs for over two
weeks, claiming she did not have the financial means to do so.
In my view, there is simply no excuse for what Veleda Bailey did.
There are local animal shelters, rescue groups or friends that she could have
called and ask for help. Instead, she chose to do nothing and left the dogs
chained outside to perish in terrible suffering. She knew perfectly was she was
doing. In the light of her recent actions, there is no doubt this cruel woman
needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We, the undersigned,
demand justice for all the defenseless dogs that suffered in the hands Veleda
Bailey!
Please sign and share and demand mandatory jail time!
