NFL player Terrence Cody has been indicted for staving his pet dog, Taz, until he passed away. Cody was found guilty of misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to nine months in jail.
Although the 27-year-old was found guilty, he managed to avoid more serious felony charges, as prosecutors failed to convince Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Judith Ensor that the NFL player had intentionally stopped feeding his dog.
According to the testimony made by prosecutors and vets, Cody did not feed his dog for at least four weeks and possibly up to ten.
Prosecutor Adam Lippe: Vets performed further tests and determined the dog was perfectly OK. This was 100 per cent a severe malnutrition case.
Cody kept the dog in his garage and left the animal living in his own filth, with no food and water. When the Canary Mastiff was rushed to the vet, he was nothing but skin and bones. Normally, a dog of this breed should have a weight of 100 pounds; Taz was less than 50 pounds on the day he passed away.
Cody’s lawyer explained that Taz was kept in the garage because it was believed the animal was carrying worms.
While prosecutor Adam Lippe is happy with the sentencing, he still cannot explain the motives behind this case.
I simply cannot explain to you why Mr. Terrence Cody opted not to feed his dog for so long. It makes no sense at all, Lippe added.
Cody was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2010 draft and played for 5 seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, before being released by the team in 2015.
The most troubling part is the fact that Terrence Cody continues to remain an active professional athlete and could very well return to action as soon as his serves his sentence.
The thought of seeing this heartless man on the football field against just sends chills down my spine.
The NFL must clean up this mess and make sure Terrence Cody is not allowed to play professional football again. It would be a major setback for the league in terms of PR not to have such types of players excluded indefinitely.
Please take action if you think Terrence
Cody should not play in the NFL again!
