It seems that beggars in China can’t possibly run out of ideas. A while ago they were using children as a begging tool. This practice is widespread all across the country. But now these people have come up with other ‘creative’ methods to impress pedestrians. Here is where the camels come into force. The animals have their limbs cut off to appear that they are begging. As the photo shows, the people behind this are sitting on their knees, bowed, right near the camel. Can it get any more outrageous than this?
The above image has been taken in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, in southeast China. However, it has been reported that the practice has now been spread nationwide.
A witnesses told the China Daily Newspaper that the beggars have been in Fuzhou for at least several months. An article published in April by a local newspaper pointed out that the people would make hundreds of yuan in just a couple of hours. The local newspaper also reports about a camel that was abandoned on the roadside in Fuzhou. The animal was transported to a zoo to be taken care of, but after a few days it was reclaimed by its so-called owner.
The survival of the camels in the area, supposedly a strictly protected species is seriously at risk. According to the latest estimates, there are only 600 wild camels left in the Gobi desert and about 800 animals in the desert Mongolian desert.
We, the undersigned, strongly feel that camels should not be used as mercy props and urge the authorities to step up and take action immediately. A country that aims to be the number one power in the world should not have such ‘shows’ on its streets. The camels need to be rescued and receive medical attention as soon as possible. They should not be laying in the street one more moment!
Please act now to stop this inhumanity and save China’s camels!
