Improve animal welfare in all abattoirs in Croatia!

Croatia is a beautiful country, no doubt about it. The nation has been blessed with wonderful cities, a spectacular culture and splendid seaside resorts, with sandy beaches and blue waters. The city of Dubrovnik, the country’s main attraction, is known worldwide as the “Pearl of the Mediterranean Sea”.

But the country is deeply flawed when it comes to animal welfare. A shocking video that emerged online depicts conditions in which animals are sacrificed in abattoirs across the country. An innocent calf is hit in the head with a big axe by heartless workers. The poor animal instantly falls to the ground. One of the workers then grabs a knife and slashes the animal’s throat while the calf is still very much alive. In just a matter of seconds, blood is dripping all over the place as the life is instantly squeezed out of this innocent animal.

Is this all worth it? The answer is, obviously, no! But because Croatia has failed to implement stricter policies regarding pratices in abattoirs, these shocking scenes unfold in abattoirs all over Croatia far too often. Croatia, which is the latest country to join the European Union, has therefore failed to comply with European directives.

I am hoping that this petition will raise awareness on this issue so I am asking everyone to please take a stand! Ask the government to stop this insanity and impose stricter regulations on animal sacrificing. Moreover, we, the undersigned, demand mandatory CCTV cameras to be installed in all abattoirs , so the relevant authorities are able to track the progress made by meat operators and check in real time if the law is being applied.

I am aware that banning meat consumption is a country is not possible. If they really must sacrifice animals for their meat, the least we can ensure is that they do no suffer needlessly and go away without any pain.

We, the undersigned, would like to inform authorities we will not be visiting Croatia until our demands are taken into account.
