The Dong people located in Guangxi Zhuang region, southern China, hang a live bull from a tree as a part of a 400-year-old tradition which is supposed to bring luck and bumper harvest, as well as peace and prosperity.
The ‘cow-hanging ritual’ is carried out each year on June 2 in the village of Baojiang. Residents parade the bull around the area in order to collect the bad luck, before choosing a ceremonial tree in the village. They decorate the bull with red flowers before callously hoisting the defenseless animal up in the air.
Local residents have vigorously defennded this inhumane tradition, claiming that "nothing wrong is going on".
Unfortunately, this tradition is starting to become more popular each year and has even become a tourist attraction, as more and more visitors pour in each year to participate at the ceremony.
Please sign the petition asking the authorities to ban this tradition as soon as possible. If something has been going on for years and years, that doesn’t make it right! And taking the life of a innocent bull just to 'collect good luck' is certainly preposterous and unacceptable.
Don’t let inhumane tradition continue! Step up and help get it
scrapped now!
