This image was recently recorded on a busy road at the outskirts of Beijing, China: a motorbike driver took it upon himself to tie a defenseless pet dog to his vehicle and drive around town like nothing was wrong. Startled passers-by tried to stop theowner and warned him about the dog, but the coward refused to do anything.
Probably the worst part of it all is the fact that since this
outrageous incident took place in China, no justice is likely to be served,
since the country does not have any animal welfare laws in place. Pets such as
cats and dogs live every second with the fear something bad might happen to
them. For instance, dogs are routinely grabbed off the streets and sold to
restaurants for their meat. Sometimes dog snatchers break into people’s homes
and steal their beloved pets – all to make a quick buck by getting involved in
the dog meat trade – which, by the way, is still legal. Such stories have
become the new normal in China, unfortunately.
Even authorities themselves harm animals – there have been numerous cases of police officers chasing down dogs and hitting them with shovels and other objects because they were believed to carry rabies or simply didn’t have a home.
While there are numerous animal lovers in China, people that have no feelings and consideration for animals outnumber them by far. Take the attacker in the photo as an example: although he was repeatedly made aware that he had a dog behind his vehicle and was urged to pull over several times, he kept driving without any hesitation. He never looked back once!
A deep and meaningful animal rights reform must get underway as soon as possible in China. Help pursue the government in Beijing to take a stand against this situation and pass laws that will confer the much-deserved protection to the animals across the country. All other major nations have implemented such laws and have developed a functional, viable system that ensures those responsible are tracked down and brought to justice – it is time China followed suit!
