Hope is only the latest creature to fall as victim on the streets of
Mumbai, India. Hope is as gentle as a dog can be. She spends all her days
struggling to make ends meet on the streets; she never bothered anyone in her
life and, if you look at her, you simply cannot get upset. Hope did nothing to
deserve her cruel fate. Unfortunately, this did not stop a group of heartless
people from severely injuring her and leaving her to die on the streets, in
terrible pain.
The dog was eventually discovered and animal rights activists were
immediately alerted. Shah Nayak, who runs the NGO called Bird and Animal
Helpline, was quick to respond and take the dog to a veterinary clinic. The
pooch arrived in terrible shape and it was determined she was attacked with
acid; cruel people also lit fireworks in her mouth, which left her jaw almost
completely shattered and made a whole in her snout.
Veterinarian Dave Vikram claims this was one of the worst attacks on
stray dogs he has ever witnessed He and his team are doing everything in their
power to save Hope’s life. More updates will be posted her as soon as they

Unfortunately, even if the people behind this disgusting attack were
apprehended, they would only receive a fine of 50 Rupees (which is 75 US
cents). This is just one of the recent attacks towards strays in India. A group
of teenagers recorded themselves while setting three puppies on fire; a man
from Hyderabad was caught on tape attacking stray dogs out of the blue while
laughing – dozens of dogs were shot and died in the hands of that deranged man;
and, as recently as last week, a resident of Mumbai was captured on video
intentionally running over a street dog because the pooch had allegedly wetted
his car tyres.
The recent spike in these cowardly attacks only comes to show that
India is in desperate need of tougher animal welfare laws. Please support my
petition and demand the Indian government to increase penalties for cruelty to
animals and impose mandatory jail terms for anyone convicted of hurting an
animal.
