Laura Cunliffe, of 22 Northumberland Road, Hoyland, England took it upon herself to cook her pet cat in the microwave. In spite of her vicious act, this heartless, deranged woman only received what I believe to be an extremely lenient sentence, that does not even come close to what she did. The purpose of this petition is to urge the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to consider updating the Animal Welfare Act of 2006 and thus impose tougher sentences for people who mistreat animals within the Great Britain. I sincerely hope as many people as possible will join this campaign.
It all started after Mowgli, the pet cat, ate Cunliffe’s goldfish. Extremely outraged by this incident, the woman placed the helpless cat into the microwave and set the timer for five minutes. After about one minute, the woman is said to have ‘come to her senses’. She took Mowgli out and poured water over him to cool him down. But this was not enough. Instead of taking the innocent moggy to a vet, Cunliffe left the animal to suffer in agony, before sadly passing away in tremendous suffering, about one hour later. The cat’s internal organs had failed, after being cooked from the inside.
Cunliffe was only handed a jail term of 14 weeks and a lifetime ban on owning animals, a restriction that can be appealed after 5 years.
Cunliffe is now around 25 years of age and lives at the same address. She dyes her in dark colours and uses the surname Eldred, to go unrecognized.
The sentence applied to Cunliffe is nothing short of pathetic and a true disgrace to the British judicial system. It is obvious that the current animal welfare act, adopted in 2006, is outdated and needs to be reviewed as soon as possible. The laws stipulate only a maximum jail term of six months and/or a £20, 000 ($35, 000) fine, which is hardly, if ever applied in full. Most attackers end up getting away with a slap on the wrist. I could have chosen one of the other countless cases in which abusers have walked away free from court – the most recent one: a pair of brothers filmed themselves throwing a helpless dog down the stairs and stomping on the poor animal repeatedly. The pooch eventually passed away in terrible pain, yet the teenage brothers were only handed a SUSPENDED sentence, which means they will not spend a single day behind bars. This is unacceptable.
Great Britain needs to do more for the animals and ensure abusers are given tougher sentences.
Please show your support for tougher animal welfare laws in the United Kingdom. Thank you for your support and interest in this issue.
This petition needs 100, 000 signatures so it can be presented in front of the British parliament for debate.
