A young goat was playing with a group of children. The kids were extremely pleased to get close to the friendly animal. They start to stroke and pet it with joy and happiness. It seems to be a fairy tail story. However, just moments after the boys leave the scene, a man approaches and grabs the goat, before dragging it around for a few minutes. The helpless animal is eventually hoisted up and tossed over a high wall, directly into a pit filled with hungry lions. The goat is powerless to escape in front of her vicious attackers. In just a matter of seconds, the goat is surrounded by lions, who start to bump into each other in other in an attempt to get a bigger chunck of meat. The entire incident unfolded in front of a laughing and cheering crowd that includes children (probably the same ones that were petting the goat a few minutes ago). Ooohs and aaahs can be heard from from the crowd.
This is how an ordinary day unfolds at the Badaltearing Safari Park, about one hour away from Beijing, China’s capital city.
But the despicable practices performed by this zoo include more stunning details. For instance, administrators encourage visitors (including children) to bait lions using live chickens. The hosts say this is an unforgettable experience that must be tried out once in a lifetime – and the programme is available all year round, each day. For $5, visitors get to see how a chicken is tied up against bamboo rods, before they can dangle it using a rope all the way down, in front of the lions. According to zoo officials, the record belongs to a woman that taunted a lion using a chicken for over five minutes, before the hungry predator managed to get ahold of his prey.
Tourists can also opt for a bus tour, where the lions’ enclosures can be visited up close. Buses have a special chute where live chickens can be pushed direcly into the lions’ cages. Children are encouraged to attend the bus tour as well.
At the same facility, visitors can also observe the terrible effects captivity has on animals. A pair of endangered moon bears spend their entire time shaking their heads and bashing them against one of the walls of their cage. These animals are crammed in a small enclosure 24/7, with no form of socialization or any way to get some exercise. However, this behavior is considered ‘funny’ by many tourists.
Please take action immediately so the Badaltearing Safari Park is shut down as soon as possible. This has to be one of the most terrible zoos on earth and I find no reason for this facility to operate anymore. It is absolutely despicable that animals are exploited for money and used as entertainment props in this truly horrible facility.
No living creature deserves to live in such appalling conditions and
no one deserves such inhumane treatment. Show your support to ensure
Badaltearing Safari Park is closed and all animals are relocated to sanctuaries
where they can live a normal and decent life.
