Punish cruel shelter employee that left puppy to die in freezer!

A shocking incident was uncovered by volunteers at the Moinesti public animal shelter in Romania. At a routine welfare inspection, volunteers were left speechless to discover that a live puppy had been placed in the freezer and left there to perish. The lid of the freezer was shut and there was no way the dog would have been able to free himself.

Caught off guard, Ion Busuioc, one of the shelter employees (pictured on the left) claimed that he was just following normal procedures: the dogs that do not survive are placed in the freezer until a team comes to the shelter and gathers all the lifeless dogs and takes them away. The employee claimed that the puppy was not moving when he was placed there. In an interview with a TV station, the man later contradicted himself and said he did not actually place the dog in the freezer.

The entire incident was caught on camera. Volunteers touched the dog several times and the canine showed signs of life. He had been placed in the freezer with a group of other lifeless dogs. The experience must have been frightening.

Volunteers managed to grab the puppy out of there and rushed him to a vet. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the poor animal was too weak to survive.

The animal shelter is run by the local mayor’s office. The mayor of Moinesti called this incident appalling and promised to file charges himself.

If the person responsible is a shelter employee, then I will personally take disciplinary sanctions against him or her. If there is another person responsible, then I am confident that the relevant authorities will take the appropriate and necessary actions to pursue justice.

This is not the first incident at the Moinesti shelter. Last year, volunteers complained that the dogs at the facility where treated inhumanely. In spite of numerous protests, not much has changed.

Romania has a very poor record when it comes to animal welfare investigations so as much pressure as possible needs to be applied on the authorities to ensure this case is not swept under the rug and real punishments are indeed applied.

Please let the mayor of Moinesti know how disappointed you are by this incident! Demand justice and  better conditions for these helpless shelter dogs!
