The people of Ecuador have been left in dismay after a series of photos showing a group of soldiers severely mistreating a harmless dog have come to light.
To be more specific, the defenseless animal was victim of a survival exercise, in which the soldiers had to prove their manhood (it seems that these monsters have been watching too many survival shows hosted by Bear Grylls on Discovery Channel). What came out of this cowardly exercise can be illustrated in the photos above. These heartless cowards cut a dog’s head off in a sick stunt and posed for photos at the end, with a big smile on their faces, extremely proud of their accomplishments.
Amid numerous protests from the general public, leaders of the Ecuadorian Army responded to these appalling photos and confirmed they will be investigating and possible sanctions could follow. In spite of huge outrage, the soldiers received a slap on the wrist: they received a small fine and were suspended for two weeks. This is all the punishment they received, if you can imagine.
The sentencing is nothing short of pathetic and disgraceful. In my vision, this is certainly not how the soldiers of any country should act. Their irresponsible behavior is completely outrageous. These are the people on which a country relies to ensure its security and safety.
The fundamental issue that needs to be addressed is the extremely lenient animal protection laws in Ecuador. Current laws are a disgrace and do not offer the much-needed protection for animals. As the current situation stands, perpetrators are not receiving any true punishment for harming animals and this must change as soon as possible.
Support tougher animal rights laws in Ecuador and ensure that when an animal is hurt in any way, the attackers are handed out mandatory jail time and steep fines.
Thank you for your support.
