8.436 NEEDED
A video recorded by PETA and recently posted online has sparked
massive outrage. The video illustrates repeated abuse at the Sit ‘N Stay Dog
Academy in Tampa Bay, Florida. We, the undersigned, are extremely disturbed by
the images published on the web and demand that the boarding facility’s license
has is revoked as soon as possible and the people responsible for this abuse face
prosecution.
The video – which is about one minute long – was documented
throughout the summer at the above mentioned dog boarding facility. Employees
can be seen yanking dogs by their leash, treating them harshly or poking them
relentlessly with sharp objects. In one extremely disturbing scene, a kennel employee wraps a leash around a dog's neck and starts choking the defenseless animal.
The Sit ‘N Stay owner, Clarke Inghram, claims he has been unfairly
targeted by people who are looking to shut his business down. He went on to
claim that the highly-edited video does not tell the entire story of what was actually going
on inside the boarding facility he manages. Inghram claims that the video does not capture the actions performed prior to the incidents, such as hugging the dog before using a leash an as emergency muzzle to keep the pooch for biting during a bath.
‘It’s a convenient method to muzzle a dog, especially when that dog
is afraid. It does not hurt them, it certainly does not cut their wind off. It
just keeps their mouth shut and does not allow their teeth to get to you. It’s
a highly used practice’ Inghram claims.
In our view, there certainly never an excuse for handling a dog in
this manner.
It seems that Mr. Ingham had prior incidents related to cruelty to
animals at the facility.
In 2002, the local sheriff’s office cited Mr. Ingham several times
for improper containment. Most of the charges were later dropped. In 2004, a
dog passed away while on campus at the academy. The dog’s owner claimed it was
a heart attack and the facility proved that the dog was suffering from a severe
liver condition.
In 2008, a former client claims he witnessed Ingham ‘helicopter’ his
dog – swinging the pooch into the air by its leash. Ingham claimed it was self
defense, since his dog was preparing to attack a pregnant woman.
It is obvious that Mr. Ingham has developed a culture of abuse at
his dog academy. We, the undersigned, hereby urge the relevant authorities to
take immediate action against this man and have him brought to justice. We
hereto demand that Sit ‘N Stay has its license revoked and Mr. Ingham is held
accountable for the abuse that has been going on for months at the facility.
Help get justice for all the mistreated
animals at these kennels and sign the petition now! Thank you.
