As many of you might be aware, the Yulin dog meat festival has
recently kicked off in southern China. This event sees over 10, 000 dogs (and
hundrends of cats) being boiled or barbecued alive for their meat. The canines
were brought from all over the country, crammed in wired cages, with no room to
move or breathe and forced to sit in these inhumane conditions for hours and even
days. Some of the dogs did not survive the gruesome trip to Yulin, others
arrived in poor state of health, emaciated and dehydrated. But that did not
matter for residents. On the contrary, cooks believe that the more the dogs
suffer, the better the meat taste. This is why they are tacking a great thrill
when causing these helpless animals so much pain. The attackers sit there
calmly, while they rip dogs’ fur off of them while the canines are still
conscious.
It is extremely important to understand that eating dog meat in
China is not only restricted to the Yulin festival. The dog meat trade takes
place every day, everywhere. Rough estimates point out that as many as 50, 000
dogs are skinned for their meat each day. Some are street dogs (who traders
claim no one will miss), others are people’s pets, callously stolen by cowardly
traders in an attempt to make a quick profit. The dogs are later sold to
abattoirs or shipped to big open markets, where they are placed in cages the
size of their bodies, waiting for customers to arrive.
This is the reality in China and this is the daily plight of man’s
best friend in the world’s most populous country. During all these years, the
Chinese government has failed to take any action to stem this vicious trade and
implement much needed animal protection laws.
This has to change as soon as possible, because the situation has
become truly unbearable. Take action immediately and please support the
campaign to bring animal rights laws in China, the only major economy in this
world that has failed to take a stand on this issue. The ignorance and
irresponsibility must come to an end as soon as possible.
Millions of dogs are in great danger as we speak. The Chinese
government has a moral duty and obligation to protect them, a task that it has
failed to honour.
Please sign and share and voice your support. The more signatures we
get, the more pressure we can put on officials in Beijing!
Thank you.
