Louis Vuitton is one of the most powerful and well-known fashion
brands in the world. Its high-end, luxury products are worn by millions of
people and appreciated by numerous critics. The company has always done its
best to be in trend and follow the latest fashion developments and quickly
implement them in their clothing and accessories’ lines.
With major fashion brands flocking to China to produce fur cheaply
and without any legal complications (China has still no animal welfare rights),
Louis Vuitton could not pass out on this unique opportunity. China has become
the world’s leader when it comes to fur exports. Chinese entrepreneurs have set
up so-called “fur farmsâ€, where animals
are bred for their fur and suffer in complete agony so companies such as Louis
Vuitton can make a fortune by selling their products to affluent, ignorant
customers. Animal such as minks, foxes and rabbits, and most recently, dogs,
are kept in cages their entire life, with barely room to breath and move. When
the time has come to be used as “raw materialsâ€, they are electrocuted, slammed
to the ground, hit in the face, before having their fur ripped off of them
while still alive. The pain experienced by these harmless creatures is very
difficult to put into words, but I figure that the image above gives readers of
this petition a comprehensive understanding of what these luxury products
imply.
Once the fur is obtained, it is sent to the company’s plants, where
they are transformed into luxury products, before being exported to Western
countries.
This is what the life of a dog is worth for Louis Vouitton and for
Chinese business men. Absolutely nothing!
Several undercover investigations have cast a light on the
inhumanity that is taking place behind close doors. Posing as undercover
buyers, representatives from animal welfare groups such as PETA and the Humane
Society International have been granted exclusively access inside these farms.
Please search the videos on YouTube and see what they are doing to the animals.
The Chinese government refuses to budge. It is therefore up to the
companies to unilateraly rescind their agreements with these heartless
entrepreneurs. But up to this point, almost no one is willing to do so, with the
exception of Giorgio Armani: the Italian fashion icon recently announced plans
to immediately drop fur out of all collections.
I strongly believe that companies such as Louis Vuitton need to
follow suit. The blatant exploitation of innocent dogs must come to a halt as
soon as possible. Ask the French company to do the right thing and do not be on
the other side of humanity and denounce the Chinese fur industry in a public
letter and rescind all fur-business related deals it has concluded.
