Daily Petition readers, we have some good news: your pleas towards
TripAdvisor have been heard! The famous travel website has recently announced
it will stop selling tickets to tourist venues that are cruel to animals.
Entertainment facilities that allow visitors to come into physical
contact with captive wild animals and endangered species have been therefore
dealt a huge blow. TripAdvisor, the world’st biggest tourism website, will no
longer sell tickets to resorts where elephants play football, monkeys are
forced to perform degrading tricks to entertain tourists or where visitors can
swim with dolphins.
This news comes amid several months of discussions between
TripAdvisor and several animal welfare organizations that include the Association
of Zoos and Aquariums, the Global Wildlife Conservation and People For The
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
“By refusing to sell tickets to businesses that treat animals as
entertainment or playthings, TripAdvisor is making a precedent-setting statement
about the use and abuse of animals for entertainment, †PETA Executive Vice
President Tracy Reiman said in TripAdvisor’s statement to the press.
TripAdvisor also announced the launching of an education portal that will be
linked to every animal-related attraction listed on its site.
This success would not have been possible without you, those who
spread the news and protested against TripAdvisor. This is your victory and no
one other than you can take credit for it!
The Daily Petition team would like to thank each and every of the
15, 000 supporters that have contributed to this victory and have been a voice
for all abused wildlife.
